Introduction to Histopathology مقدمة علم امراض الانسجة

The histopathology is one of the simplest & most straightforward majors in the MLS.
The courses in the second, third & even fourth year consist of very simple chapters.
The course in  the second year can be put in two words: Tissue Processing.
The steps taken with a tissue sample arriving the lab until its stained to be examined for the abnormality.

النظري واللاب قريبين من بعض خالص انا ما كنت بفرق انا بقرا لاب ولا نظري! استاذ احمد النذير ( الان هو ما بدرس) واساتذة اللاب عملو لي تكريم لأنو انا جبت اعلي درجة في الدفعة. كانت 91 او 94 ما متأكد. انا كلو مرة كنت بقول ولازلت بكرر:" والله دي ما مني!" لأنو الناس ظنت اني عبقري ولا حاجة! قلت ليهم : ابدا! والله طريقة تدريس الاساتذة هي البقت المادة ساهلة  زي ما حكيت في مقدمة الاحياء الجزيئية.
طبعا ما كانت في تجارب كتيرة في اللاب في سنة تانية. طور انقسام الخلية ورص الكروموسومات ,,,الخ.
نشوف في تالتة المحاضرات واللاب فيهم شنو:

مقدمة الكيمياء Chemistry :Introduction

اقصر مادة تقريبا هي مادة الكيمياء. اللاب بتاعها شويه مهم. كرر الحسابات بتاعت المولارية كم مرة عشان ده هو ببساطة الامتحان! ممكن مجموعة من الطلبة يمشو لي استاذ لاب ويطلبو منو اعادة لاب في يوم ما فيو شي. او بعد اخر قروب اذا في زمن.

بالنسبة للمحاضرات, اي معادلة تكتبها الاستاذة دي تتحفظ! اكتبها كم مرة, كرر كم مرة, اي شيء بنفع, حسب اسلوب الزول. المهم, دخول الامتحان بدون ما الزول يكون حافظ كل المعادلات انتحار!

برضو في كم تعريف كده لازم يتحفظو.  انا بسمي الحاجة دي "تقطيع سلطة!!"

اكتب في ورقة براها كل التعاريف. وفي ورقة تانية كل المعادلات. وبعداك اقرا المحاضرات عادي.

بالبساطة دي! والله الزول ما بحس بسهولة الكيمياء في اولي الا بعد ما يمشي تانية!

الثقافة الاسلامية: مقدمة

 سمعت انو استاذ الثقافة الاسلامية غيروهو لي استاذة. انا سمعت من طلبة عنها لاكين ما لاقيتها . المهم, مادة الثقافة ما ممكن تتغير كتير من جامعة لي جامعة خليكم من دفعة لي دفعة! وبالمناسبة, الاستاذة البيتقري في الجامعة ما في شك حتكون بتقري في كم جامعة تانية. عارفين فايدة الحاجة دي شنو؟

اللغة: نبدا بالاهم!

واحدو من اهم الحاجات لي اي طالب بغض النظر عن المجال هي: اللغة.
ده ما راي شخص لاكين حقيقة اتفق عليها المجتمع العلمي حتي بقت ما محتاجة نقاش!
لو العلماء ما كانوا مهتمين باللغة (اللاتينية كانت لغة العلم لقرون) كيف ظهرت كل المصطلحات النحنا بنشوفها اليوم؟

اذا ممكن الواحد يقول الطالب محتاج يمرن ذاكرتو (طبعا في طرق لي كده!) او يكون منظم, صبور, الخ. لاكين اللغة دايما حتكون عمود لا يستغني عنه للنجاح في الدراسة.
لمن انا كنت في السنة الاولي, لحسن الحظ, كنت عارف الحاجة دي.  عرفت انو حتكون حاجة متعبة انو استخدم المعجم كل مرة وتانية اثناء ما بقرا او اثناء محاضرة. عشان كده قررت اعمل لي خطة صغيرة عشان تساعدني اكون فايت اللغة المستخدمة في المحاضرات. في الواقع, بسبب الخطة دي, انا نهائي ما احتجت اشوف كلمة اثناء ما انا بقرا خلال الاربعة سنين! لأني كنت بكون قريت المصطلح البستخدمو المحاضر لأول مرة مسبقا وبالتالي بفهم المحاضرة اسرع. اذاً, الخطة دي كانت شنو؟ اكيد انا ما كنت ساحر او بقدر اشوف المستقبل!  ابداً! بس ببساطة اتعلمت كلمات جديدة كل يوم! من اي كتاب لاقاني.. مثلا من كتاب فيزياء اسمو

لاكين اكيد ده ما حيغطي المصطلحات كلها! في واحدة زميلتنا قالت لي انها قرت كورس مصطلحات لي مدة شهرين قبل ما تبدا 

!الجامعة. لاكين انا احتجت لي حاجة اسرع, حاجة تكون مناسبة معاي وفعالة. قمت بعد فترة لقيت الاجابة

بعد حبة محاضرات في البايوكيمستري احتمال تكونو عرفتو مصطلحات زي
Mono= one, poly= many/multiple
يلا اتخيل انو الزول قدر يعرف عشرات من ديل! المحاضرات حتبقي اسهل بكتير. طبعا في مصطلحات حتتكرر كتير كل الناس حتعرفا. وفي مصطلحات تانية دايرة ليها معجم او دراسة شويه. ومرات بتجي في الامتحان الزول لو ما اتعلما مسبقا, ما حيقدر يحل السؤال.
طبعا ما محتاج انك تحفظهم كلهم, بس افتح الصفحة وعاين ليهم كل فترة وتانية (قزقزة زي ما بيقولو او زي قراية الجريدة)ز
وبعد شويه الزول بقدر "يستنتج" المعني بتاع المصطلح مهم كان طويل.
.برضو من المهم انو الزول يكون عندو دفتر بتاع مصطلحات براو بدل ما بس يكتب معني الكلمة في الهامش(زي ما اغلب الطلبة )

مقدمة الفيزياء: انسي اي انطباع اخدتو عن الفيزياء في الثانوي! الفيزياء اسهل مادة في الجامعة كلها!

رغم الاسلوب التخويفي المتخذنو اغلب  اساتذة الفيزياء في الجامعة, الا انو الفيزياء من اسهل واجمل المواد في السنة الاولي! عشان اشرح انا قاصد شنو, خلوني احكي ليكم قصتي مع الفيزياء في سنة اولي:
زي ما قلت في المقدمة انا اثناء السنة الاولي حصلت لي ظروف منعتني من اني احضر زي تلاتة اسابيع اغلب المحاضرات. وكنت ساكن بعيد والاستاذ كان متشدد جدا في الحضور الساعة 8:30 . ما كنت بقدر دايما اصل في الوقت ده. بعد ما حضرت محاضرة محاضرتين. تلاتة محاضرات ورا بعض غبت فيهم. في المحاضرة الخامسة, اثناء ما المحاضرة شغالة وانا ما قدرت ادخل, زهجت وقلت امشي المكتبة اشوف الحاصل شنو في الفيزياء دي. مشيت وقعدت "اتفرج" علي الرفوف لحدي ما لقيت رف الفيزياء. قعدت اعاين لي اسماء الكتب وقادر افهم جزو من عناوينم لاكين ما عندي ادني فكرة اشيل ياتو واحد واحاول اعرف منو حاجة.اتزكرت انو المحاضرة الاولي الحضرتها كانت بتتكلم عن الشغل والحركة. لحسن حظي لأنو المكتبة بيكون فيها نسخ كتيرة من الكتب المستخدمة  اكتر, شلت لي كتاب مالي الرفوف اسمو

Contemporary College Physics

( معاصر= Contemporary) ولا كنت عارف معني 

المهم, بقيت اعاين في الفهرس لحدي ما لقيت عنوان المحاضرة, فتحت الصفحة لقيت كلام المحاضرة بالضبط زي ما هو!!!.  من الحماس قريت المحاضرة ولأني ما كنت عارف المحاضرات واصلة وين, واصلت قراية. طبعا ما كنت فاهم الكلام 100% قلت احسن مما اكون "طاشي شبكة" ...قريت من الساعة 9 لحدي نهاية المحاضرة الساعة 11 وبعداك مشيت اللاب...الاسبوع الجاي,المحاضرة رقم 6 ب"الصدفة" جيت بدري وحضرت. نسيت تماما انو انا ما حاضر تلاتة محاضرات! الاستاذ لمن بدا يتكلم, لاحظت انو الكلام ده مرا علي! قلت لي واحد صحبي جنبي:" انا عارف حل المسألة دي" قبل ما الاستاذ يشرحا.طبعا ماصدقني. قلت ليو الحل وبعد زي 5 دقايق كلامي طلع صح! انا ما صدقت!  لقيت نفسي من الساعتين القريتم في المكتبة قريت التلاتة المحاضرات وفت الاستاذ! كان شعور لا يوصف! جبل هم وانزاح من صدري!حكيت لي صحبي عن الكتاب ده ومشينا قريناو مرة مرتين.

So, what major should you choose?

I have heard this question asked & discussed an endless number of times! & I'm quite sure so will you! So I feel like saying: It IS rare for a person to know what major of the Medical Lab Sciences exactly he/she will choose right from the start. The motives for choosing are numerous and at times contradicting. So let us have a brief overview of these motives plus perhaps some guidelines to make choosing the major in the fourth year a bit easier....
First, from some time amid the second year, some might feel 'inclined' towards a subject just for the very nature of it! or just because they like its lab, they feel they understand its lectures, and sometimes just because its teaching department staff are nice! Now I'll say about this last reason that it DOES make a bit of a difference for the lecturers, lab instructors,etc. to be able to make students readily fall in love with the course, the subject, & thus the major. As so was my case with Genetics as I mention in an introduction to the course: Why Genetics and the teaching department staff have a perfect harmony. And I feel extremely lucky to have that happened to me!
However, for the lecturer, instructor to be the ONLY factor upon which someone decide to like/dislike a subject is not wise nor productive! Understanding the major's nature and skills  requirements and then measuring them with one's own skills sounds more of a good idea! So, we have: Clinical chemistry, Hematology, Histopathology, Microbiology & Parasitology.....which of these is right one for you:

The molecular biology, or Genetics, was my all-time favorite subject! and even though many in my batch didn't like it so much, I'll tell you that there's so much to learn from it and why the entire teaching department stands to be the best in the MLS faculty if not in the entire university!

The Language: First things first.

                                                                     
 One of the most important things to a student in whatever scientific field is : Language! It's not a personal opinion but a fact so long ago was agreed upon that it needs no discussion! How do you think terminology as simple as "morphology" came to existence if the scholars at their time didn't study Latin?. That's because they understood the role of language ( Latin was for a long time the language of Science at the time in which scientific papers were published).
So, one might say that a student needs: to train himself to have a good memory (yes! there are ways!), to be patient, organized, etc. But, language will always be an indispensable pillar to success in studying.
When I was in my first year, luckily, I was aware of that. I knew it would be tiring to have to go to the dictionary every now & then. So, I came up with a little plan  to help me stay ahead of the language in the courses. In fact, thanks to this little plan, I never had to go to a dictionary while I'm studying something throughout the years. That's because I had already known the word or terminology. So, when the lecturer used a word for the first time, I readily understood it. So, what was this 'little plan'?
It's not like I can see the future or a magician of some sort! No. I simply learned new words every single day. Especially, in my first year. I used many sources. for example, There was this Physics book :
Contemporary Modern Physics ( I learned the word contemporary from there) plus other books. But that doesn't cover terminology. A colleague of mine I'd recently known at the time told me that she studied terminology before starting university for two months. But I needed something faster, something that is personalized & efficient. So, I finally found the answer. There is this article in Wikipedia :List of Greek & Latin roots  Which has another version :":List of prefixes, suffixes used in Medical terminology They're simply very long lists of almost every prefix, root, & suffix that comes from Latin to form a terminology. A few lectures in Biochemistry will show you that "Poly-" =Many. "Mono-"=one.etc.
Now imagine you know tons of those! as there are so many of them you'll encounter throughout the four years. Some of them will be repeated so often everyone will remember them. But some are tricky, most students will have hard time remembering or studying them. The list have hundreds like the examples I gave. You don't have to memorize them. Just study some every now & then & gradually you'll be able to easily 'predict' the meaning of a terminology you see for the first time. It's also necessary to have a vocabulary notebook for words with intersting meanings. instead of just writing the meaning on sheets (as most students did). This will show our brain that we actually care about these words than just look them up every time in the dictionary.
So,....many people will ask; How many words per day? or like another question: "how many hours should I study daily? I say that knowledge is like food! Have anyone said:" I'll eat this lunch in 15 minutes & when 15 minutes pass he stops eating even if he's still hungry? Knowledge is food to our brain! study until "he's" had enough! Developing this habit of putting time aside especially for the language every now & then, will definitely get you used to it & make studying many times easier. I'll sometimes post about how/what words, terminology will be needed in some courses.

اهلا! انا اسمي مبشر حسن. اتخرجت من كلية المختبرات الطبية الدفعة 16, 2014.ومن اول يوم لي في الجامعة (متذكرو كأنو امبارح) كان عندي هدف واحد: انو احقق اقصي استفادة من الاربعة سنين الحقضيها في الجامعة= اكتسب اقصي معرفة. (بالبساطة دي!) كنت متحمس جدا ومصمم اني احقق هدفي, دافعني شغفي للعلم عموما ومع اهداف تانية ,اني افرح الناس البيهم قدرت ادخل الجامعة.(ومنو المادافعو السبب الاخير ده؟) عشان كده بقيت تنافسي شديد (بالذات مع نفسي!) كنت دايما بحاول انتبه في المحاضرات, وبكتب ملاحظات. لاكين بسبب ظروف, اتعترت في الطريق واضطريت اغيب من محاضرات في خلال السنة. لاكين لسه كنت قادر اتابع الكورسات. ادائي كان بتفاوت من سنة لي سنة, لاكين كان بتحسن مع السنين واتعلمت كيف اعرف اكتر باقل جهد. (اتعلمت كيف اتعلم!) المشكلة كانت, اني لاحظت انو مهما اجتهدت كان شبه مستحيل اني ادي كل كورس افضل ما عندي! وبديت اتسائل السبب شنو! طموحي نهائي ما اختلف خلال السنين : اني احصل علي "امتياز" في كل مادة. لاكين بس بعد 3 سنين محاولة حتي يادوب عرفت المشكلة كانت وين! اكيد انا ماحالقي اللوم علي اي محاضر او الجامعة او اي ازول, ابدا! لأنو دايما كان ممكن اعمل افضل اذا رجع الزمن.....عشان كده جاتني فكرة اني اعمل المدونة دي: اني اوفر مصادر بسيطة بس تعبت عشان احصل عليها لي كل زول  يجي بعدي الكلية ويستفيد منها...واهم من كده: انبه الوراي من المشاكل الممكن تلاقي الزول في كل مادة! لانو الحاجات البسيطة دي انا كنت فاقدا ! عشان كده انشالله حاكتب عن كل تفاصيل مقرر كل كورس بتاع مادة وكل مشكلة انا بعرف ممكن تلاقي الزول خلال الاربعة سنين....امل انو المدونة تجيب النفع لي كل طالب في كلية المختبرات الطبية , جامعة العلوم والتقانة!

Introduction

Hi! My name is Moubssher Hassan. I graduated from Medical Laboratory Science( MLS) Batch16, 2014. Since the first day in UST, MLS,(I remember it as if it was yesterday!) I had but one goal in mind; to make the most out of my 4 years in university, to gain knowledge. (As simple as that!). I was very excited & determined to achieve my goal! supported by my passion for science in general & among many other reasons, the desire to make the people who made my studying in university possible, happy. I mean, who isn't motivated by this latter reason? So I became competitive & perfectionism took over me. I always paid attention in lectures, took notes, but due to some circumstances, I stumbled on the road, & had to skip some lectures amid the year. I still didn't lose track of the courses. In the first year, my performance in the courses varied. It however improved with the years & I learned to learn more by doing less ( I learned to learn!). The problem is, I noticed how it was almost impossible to give my best to every course. And I started to wonder why. My ambition never changed throughout the years; which was to get an "Excellent" on every subject. It was only after 3 years trying & failing, (to get an 'A' on every course), that I figured out what was wrong! I don't -by no means- mean to cast the blame on anyone! not the lecturers, nor the university, nor anyone! After all, I could've always done better! ....That's why I thought of making this blog; To make resources where those come after me to MLS benefit from things that are simple but exhausted me to get! & more importantly to give a heads-up of the pitfalls that I fell into. The things which I never had when I was an undergraduate! I'll write about -as much as I can- all the details, the curricula, the problems of every subject in MLS that I know of. I hope this blog brings benefit to each & every student there is in MLS, UST
